Personal Audio - Buyers Guide
Minidisc Minidisc offers you digital quality music and instant track access on a compact and durable disc. Personal Minidisc players are available in two formats - recordable or playback only and both can be connected to your existing Hi-Fi system with the right cables. The Recordable System - This is great for creating your own compilations and for listening to music on the move. The Playback Only System - This is light and compact and the ideal companion for a Hi-Fi with recordable Minidisc facility. What ever system you choose, look out for an in-line remote control on the headphone lead as this will allow you to control the music while the Minidisc is in your pocket. If you are interested in recording your own compilations, you may prefer a long play model, which allows up to four times more music on one disc. For downloading music from the Internet, look for a system with a "PC Link" for downloading MP3 files. Most Minidisc players come with rechargeable batteries but for maximum convenience, select a player that comes with a "docking station" for recharging. Tape If you will be using your tape player for a few hours at a time, choose a model with an in-line remote control and auto reverse facility. If you like to listen to the radio on the go, you may want to consider a player with a built-in tuner for instant access to pre-set radio stations. Look out for a machine that is made of aluminum, which tends to be more durable. Compact Disc Compact Disc systems include a wealth of gadgets to guarantee great music quality wherever you are. Anti-Shock - Look for a player with an anti-shock feature to help prevent music from skipping if the CD is jolted, whilst Jog Proof models are designed to withstand constant movement in any direction and are great for use if you like listening to music whilst out for a walk or run. Built-in-Tuner - A built in tuner allows instant access to several pre-set radio stations. In-Line Remote - Found on the headphone lead, an in-line remote gives you complete control over your music without having to fiddle with the player whilst on the move. MP3 Compatible - A system with MP3 CD playback lets you listen to the recordings you have made on a PC in MP3 format, with up to ten hours of music on one disc. MP3 These light and compact players allow you to download music from the Internet, or transfer music from CDs onto your PC and play it back. You need to be aware how much memory the MP3 system has. Memory is measured in Megabytes (Mb), with 64Mb giving you up to an hour of music. Essentials Cleaners - Static electricity will attract dust to the lens of the CD and MiniDisc players and tape heads which reduces the sound performance. Cleaners are available for each type of player. Carry Cases - To protect your new product while your on the move. Batteries - Not always included. Headphones - The headphones supplied with the product may not be the type you prefer.
