Two Way Radios - Buyers GuideIntroduction
Channels & Range Channels - Most two way radios come with between 6 and 10 channels. A channel is the frequency that the radio is operating on. You can change the channel to select the best reception for the area you are in, like tuning in to a radio station. Change the channel you are using so other people nearby don't use the same one and vice versa. Range - The range of most two way radios is approximately 2 mile in ideal conditions (flat land with no obstructions), this distance is reduced in hilly or built up areas. To avoid losing contact is an out of range alert can be useful so you know when your reaching the edge of the range of your radio. Batteries Some 2 way radios work with conventional batteries that can be simply replaced when the run out. More expensive models have rechargeable batteries and sometimes a desktop charger so the two way radios can be stored and charged conveniently ready for use. Another feature to look out for is a low battery indicator so you know when you need to replace or re-charge the batteries. Other Features Lock Button - To lock the buttons on the radio so the settings can't be accidently changed. Backlit Display - So you can see the display in the dark.
