Coffee Makers - Buyers GuideType
Filter Coffee Makers Filter Coffee makers consist of a water reservoir to put the cold water in, filter and coffee holder, a coffee jug for the filter coffee to drip in to and stand or warming plate for the jug to stand on while the coffee is being made and kept warm if necessary. Some of the added features available on filter coffee makers are: Walter Filtration - Filters the water before making the coffee to remove any impurities Digital Timers - to preset the start of your coffee making Automatic Shutoff - Allows you to pause the coffee making long enough to pour a cup. Permanent Filters - Replace the standard disposable ones. Espresso Coffee Makers There are two types of espresso machines to choose from, pump machines and steam machines. On both types of machine bar pressure is an important consideration as the higher the bar pressure the better the coffee. Pump Machines - Pump machines heat the water to the correct temperature then force it through the coffee using an internal pump. This force is more intense than a steam machine and results in a higher quality and better tasting drink. The water tank can also be refilled at any time for unlimited coffee. Only a pump machine produces Crema, which is creamy foam that contains the full flavour of the coffee bean. Steam Machines - Steam machines are less expensive that pump models. With these machines the water must come to a boil to the maximum pressure needed which means that it cannot be opened safely during use. Combination Coffee Makers Combination coffee makers not only brew a pot of traditional coffee but also produce espresso and cappuccino as well. These units are often slightly larger than the single use units. Other Features Froth Attachment - A separate nozzle that uses steam to foam milk for cappuccino Warming Plate - A built-in heating element to keep the jug of coffee warm Measuring Spoon or Tamper - Used to measure and compress the ground coffee Brew Strength Selector - A built in flavour system that allows you o adjust the strength of your coffee.
