Dishwashers - Buyers Guide
Performance
All dishwashers are graded from 'A' to 'G' for cleaning performance, energy efficiency and drying performance with 'A-Grade' being the best. Machines that achieve 'A-Grade' in all three categories are therefore the best.
Cleaning Performance - 'A-Grade' in Cleaning performance is awarded to machines that prove to be the most efficient at removing dried grease and food from your dishes to leave them sparkling clean.
Energy Efficiency - 'A-Grade' energy performance dishwashers will save you money by using less electricity and hot water.
Drying Performance - 'A-Grade' drying performance dishwashers leave the least water on your dishes at the end of the wash programme.
Programme Choice
Choose a machine with the programmes to best suit your lifestyle and you will wonder how you ever managed without a dishwasher. The following are some examples of the most popular programmes and features: -
Quick Wash - for lightly soiled dishes or when you haven't got time to wait for a full cycle to run.
Economy Wash - uses the minimum amount of water and washes the dishes quickly.
Intensive Wash Programme - to shift that really baked on food. Ideal for pots and pans.
Glassware - an extra delicate wash to ensure glasses are not damaged and come out sparkling clean.
Ease of Use
1. Timer Delay - lets you set your dishwasher to come on when it suits you or to take advantage of low cost late night electricity charges.
2. Adjustable Baskets - allow for larger items like pots and pans to be accommodated and thoroughly cleaned.
3. Self Cleaning Filters - take away waste and purify water.
4. Sensor Dishwashers - are intelligent top end machines that automatically adjust the wash programme to best suit your load and ensure perfect results every time.
Noise
Early dishwashers were fairly noisy but most of todays products are reasonably quiet. Dishwasher noise is measured in decibels with machines that have a noise level of around 42dB (decibels) sounding up to four times quieter that a 56dB model.
Water Usage
The latest dishwashers use half the water of traditional hand washing methods which saves money as well as being good for the environment.
Other Useful Information
Dishwashers now come in such a wide variety of sizes that there will almost certainly be one to suit your needs. There are standard, freestanding models to fit under your existing worktop, integrated appliances for that built in look and slim line dishwashers for when space is at a minimum. There are even ultra compact counter-top models that are great fro use in a small home.
You will save time too because the average 4 person household currently spends almost two weeks doing the washing up in the kitchen sink.
